MultiEra Legacy Browser

A lightweight browser for older computers and intentionally simple websites.

Purpose

The browser is intended to make older machines useful on networks and local web environments again, without requiring modern JavaScript frameworks or large resource budgets.

Use cases

  • MultiEra Legacy Edition and similarly simple websites
  • local documentation and intranet pages
  • retro networking and browser experiments
  • web access on systems where modern browsers are no longer available

Status

Active development and compatibility research.

Current work focuses on core functions such as navigation, input/scrolling, simple rendering, image handling and understandable network behavior.

Target platforms

Classic Mac OS68K / PPCDOS / x86Windows 3.x / 9xAmiga

These are development and test targets, not blanket claims that finished builds already exist. C64/8-bit also acts as a reference for how far web content can be reduced.

Design principles

  • small and understandable feature set
  • robust rendering of simple HTML content
  • low memory and CPU requirements
  • keyboard, mouse and scrolling support on old systems
  • compatibility documented per platform and test machine

Test strategy

Emulators provide a fast development path. Releases and compatibility claims should also be verified on real hardware whenever suitable systems are available.

  • Modern: current browser standards
  • Legacy: classic browsers and reduced web technology
  • 8-Bit: highly constrained browsers as the lower compatibility reference

Download status

No public browser build yet.

A download will only appear once the target platform, minimum requirements, network path and basic controls have been tested reproducibly.
